About the woven textile designer

Krisztina Vándor is a Hungarian home textile designer and woven textile artist whose work weaves together a love of craftsmanship, a deep respect for materials, and a strong artistic vision. As the founder of VANDOR studio®, she creates contemporary, handcrafted and small-series textiles for the home — rugs, cushions, blankets, and custom pieces — that combine functionality with poetic beauty.

Her passion for textiles began in childhood, during summers spent at traditional Hungarian craft camps in the village of Jászkarajenő. Here, she was introduced to handcrafts like weaving, batik, shibori, beading, embroidery, and clay work. Encouraged by her first craft teachers and inspired by her grandfather, a ceramic artist, Krisztina developed a lasting love for intricate, handmade processes and the tactile world of threads and textures. One Christmas, she received her first weaving frame from her parents — a gift she still owns today.

She later attended the Tóparti Secondary School of Art in Székesfehérvár, where she specialized in handweaving and textile arts under the mentorship of Éva Farkas and Dóra Zsámbokréty. It was here that she was introduced to rug weaving and the creation of artistic tapestries — skills that would become the foundation of her textile design career.

Krisztina earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Fashion and Textile Design at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) in Budapest. From the outset, she chose to specialize in woven textile design, where she was trained in industrial weaving technologies by András Kenyeres, learned advanced textile techniques from Andrea Szittner, and deepened her knowledge of materials and structure. An Erasmus exchange semester at Konstfack University in Stockholm, led by artist Bella Rune, provided valuable international experience and further shaped her approach to textile art.

After graduation, she held internships and worked in production management for a fashion brand, but her desire to create her own path led her to establish VANDOR studio®. Through the studio, she brings her vision of timeless, human-centered design to life — blending traditional weaving with modern interior needs, and offering both small-batch and bespoke home textile solutions.

As a woven textile designer, Krisztina sees fabric not merely as surface, but as structure, rhythm, and narrative. She is particularly drawn to the tension between precise technical knowledge and the intuitive process of creating something deeply personal and emotional. Her textiles are characterized by their thoughtful construction, sustainable materials, and subtle color compositions that enrich and personalize interior spaces.

Whether working on a custom rug for a private home or developing exclusive fabrics for larger-scale collaborations, Krisztina combines artistic intuition with exceptional craftsmanship. Her work continues to explore the possibilities of weaving — as both a functional practice and a form of storytelling.

Mission & Vision as a home textile designer

At VANDOR studio®, my mission is to create home textiles that resonate on a human level — textiles that are not only functional and beautiful, but also carry emotional value. I believe a well-crafted home textile can do more than decorate a space: it can ground us, inspire us, and tell the story of who we are.

My vision is to preserve and reimagine the art of weaving for the contemporary home. I aim to connect traditional techniques with modern aesthetics, sustainable practices, and the specific needs of each client. Whether through one-of-a-kind rugs or limited edition collections, every home textile piece is made with care, for the ones you care about.
